Professor Patrick Winston of MIT, a pioneer in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI) passed away on July 19th, 2019 in Boston, USA. He was 76. Prof. Winston was foremost an educator whose textbook on AI is still widely used across the world. He had a very unique perspective on AI research with a focus on storytelling. Computers could be endowed with human like intelligence if they could be taught how to understand, process and create stories. Professor Winston was a friend of Qatar Computing Research Institute (QCRI) having visited and given a public lecture in AI, in March 2017.
